During a session of muscle testing, the client is tested by carefully positioning the client to isolate certain movements and isolated muscles. Once a weakness is identified, the muscle or movement is activated by repetitive isometric contractions until the muscle presents with more strength or he pain diminishes(1). This procedure is carried out over the whole body and all weaknesses are ascertained and documented.

After the session of muscle testing, exercises are prescribed under the supervision of the therapist that isolate the clients weaknesses. These exercises can then be performed by the client at home under a “self managed” regime(2) until the next session when the muscles are re-tested to assess the clients progress.
